We regretfully announce the cancellation of PSDIC 2020, scheduled 9/25-9/27.
This is a unanimous decision made by our PSDIC committee after much thought and consideration. Let’s highlight the most important:
This is first and foremost the most important. Many of our bowlers and most of the committee are in the demographic most at-risk if they catch COVID. Several indicate they will not participate this year as they do not feel completely safe doing so.
The bowling center is currently closed with no anticipated reopening date. When centers are allowed to reopen, there will certainly be capacity restrictions. The USBC Open Championships are limiting it to one team per pair. PS Lanes is a small house, and following similar guidelines, capacity is limited to 13 teams a squad, 26 teams in total. This drastically affects prize funds and quite frankly, fun.
Providing a great experience, prize fund and payout ratio to our bowlers requires extensive fundraising in addition to entry fees. As most of you know, tournaments have fundraising activities scheduled throughout the year to augment prize funds.
The pandemic has effectively curtailed all of our scheduled fundraising activities which greatly diminishes our tournament payouts. Palm Springs is a town based on tourism, and we do not anticipate many of our business sponsors are in a favorable financial situation.
We’re sure that this is disappointing to you. Please understand this is equally disappointing and frustrating for us as well. Everyone stay safe and healthy and we’ll get through this together. If we don’t see you before, we’ll see your bright and smiling faces in 2021 with our normal October dates.
